Run for Reading 5K to Benefit County Library
The Tuscarawas County Public Library System will host its Run for Reading 5K on Saturday, April 25th at 10:00am with a route that begins and ends at its Main Library located at 121 Fair Ave NW, New Philadelphia.
“Runners interested in participating can stop into one of our five locations (Main Library, Bolivar, Strasburg, Sugarcreek, or Tuscarawas) to complete and turn in a registration form,” said Public Relations Associate Molly Calhoun. “They can also access the form on our website at and mail it into the library.”
According to Calhoun, early registration is underway for this year’s race until April 3rd with fees of $25 for adults and $15 for kids (Grades K- Age 17). Race day registration fees are $30 for adults and $20 for kids (Grades K-Age 17).
“This year we wanted to get back to basics,” said Calhoun. “The last few years, we have had different themes for our races, but this year we really just wanted to host a good old-fashioned 5K. That seems to be what people respond to most.”
According to Director Michelle McMorrow Ramsell proceeds from the Run for Reading 5K will benefit the library’s programming and special projects funds. This helps bring in high-ticket programs that the library wouldn’t be able to pull off without the support of the community. Some of the past programs include Animal Encounters with sharks and penguins, and visits from COSI and the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.
Runners will receive goodie bags the day of the race, and those who register before April 3rd will also receive a t-shirt. Medals will be awarded to the top three male, female, and under 17 finishers.
Calhoun said the 5K committee is currently seeking t-shirt sponsors. For more information on sponsorship or registration of the library’s Run for Reading 5K please call 330-364-4474 ext. 221.
